Since 1978, the Art Directors Association of Iowa has awarded scholarships to deserving students enrolled in colleges and universities recognized as having excellent graphic design programs. With the presentation of the 2007 scholarships, $95,650 in scholarship money has been given to 168 Iowa students.

Selection of any individual student to be honored shall be made upon recommendation of knowledgeable faculty within the Iowa college or university concerned. Written recommendations are required to be submitted by the faculty. Only properly selected students, whose favorable scholastic performance warrants recognition, will be rewarded by ADAI. Recipients of scholarships are not to be favored by virtue of age, sex, color, or creed. The final decision for the granting of any scholarship rests with the Scholarship Committee.

The participating schools are: Des Moines Area Community College, Drake University, Grand View College, Hawkeye Community College, Iowa State University, Simpson College, the University of Northern Iowa, and Graceland College. Due to the support of our past advertisers and donations from members, the committee has been able to purchase Certificates of Deposits and securities. We award scholarships by using only the interest that has accrued annually. All the donations to the scholarship fund have been securely invested and the annual scholarship amounts are based on the interest only. The appointed scholarship Fund Committee members are charged with the responsibility of administering the Fund so that it continues to grow and will perpetuate into the future.

ADAI strives to maintain and further the professional endeavors of those in graphic design and related fields, to assist others interested in the profession, and encourage high standards of competence. Professional and student members are invited to attend monthly meetings. ADAI holds an annual design exhibition in the spring to recognize outstanding work by professionals. In past years, there was a student category in that competition. Since 2004, ADAI has been holding all-student design competitions in February.
